This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) describes activities that are prohibited when using the OSRMRoute Service. It applies to all users and plans, is part of and incorporated into our Terms of Service, and we may update it from time to time. Capitalized terms have the meaning given in the Terms.
1. Illegal and harmful use
You must not use the Service to:
- violate any applicable law, regulation or third-party right;
- infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights, or process personal data unlawfully;
- publish, transmit or facilitate unlawful, defamatory, obscene, harassing, harmful or deceptive content;
- distribute malware or engage in phishing, fraud or other harmful activity.
2. Security and system integrity
You must not:
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems, networks or data;
- probe, scan, penetration-test or test the vulnerability of the Service without our prior written authorization;
- breach or circumvent authentication, security, quota or access controls;
- interfere with or disrupt the Service, its servers or networks, including through denial-of-service (DoS/DDoS) attacks.
3. Fair use, quotas and automated traffic
Automated access is allowed within your plan’s Quotas and Rate Limits. You must design integrations to back off and retry gracefully on HTTP 429 and 5xx responses, cache Results where appropriate, and avoid abusive or excessive request patterns. You must not create multiple accounts, rotate or share API keys, or distribute requests to evade Quotas, Rate Limits, bans or the free tier.
4. Map-data restrictions
Results derive from open datasets, principally OpenStreetMap (ODbL) and Overture Maps. You must not:
- systematically extract, scrape or reconstruct a substantial part of the underlying datasets, or use the Service to build a product that competes with the Service;
- use stored Results to build a Derivative Database intended for redistribution in violation of the ODbL/CDLA;
- remove, obscure or alter the “© OpenStreetMap contributors” attribution or any other required source notice;
- publicly disclose benchmark or performance-test results without our prior written consent.
5. Location and privacy misuse
Because the Service processes location data, you must not use it to:
- stalk, harass, or unlawfully surveil, track or profile any individual;
- track or identify individuals without a lawful basis or required consent;
- conduct unlawful government or private surveillance, or otherwise use location Output in violation of privacy or data-protection laws (including the GDPR and CCPA).
6. Safety-critical use
Output consists of estimates for informational purposes. You must not use the Service as the sole basis for emergency dispatch, autonomous or assisted vehicle control, aviation or maritime navigation, or other decisions where an error could lead to death, personal injury, or severe environmental or property damage, without appropriate independent verification and safeguards.
7. Resale and redistribution
You must not resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Service or raw Output as a stand-alone product or dataset except under a written reseller agreement with us.
8. Enforcement
We may investigate suspected violations and may throttle, suspend or terminate access, remove content, or take other protective action, with or without notice depending on severity. We may report unlawful activity to the authorities and cooperate with law enforcement. Serious or repeated violations may result in termination without refund.
9. Reporting abuse
