Changelog

New services, improvements and fixes for the OSRMRoute APIs.

Entries describe changes at their publication date. Check the current documentation and Coverage page for today’s availability and limits.

Delivery workflow, guided integration and service coverage

  • New

Delivery solution with a live single-vehicle round-trip comparison, travel-time matrix and downloadable server-side Node/Python examples. Examples require coordinate review before route optimization.

  • Improved

Guided first API request for routing, stop ordering, matrix and address search, with editable input, response preview, request IDs and matching code snippets.

  • New

Country/service capability checker covering the API catalog plus walking, cycling and reverse lookup. Configured coverage is distinguished from live availability and detailed address/boundary data.

  • New

Reliability page with a dated 44-case public quality report, measurement methodology and client-confidentiality policy. Status exposes sample counts, observation times and successful-probe p50/p95.

Pay as you go

  • New

Pay-as-you-go plan: no subscription — add a card once, top up a prepaid credit balance in whole US dollars ($1 = 1,000 credits), and every request deducts its credit cost. Top-ups are charged in the background; automatic top-up is optional.

  • New

HTTP 402 Payment Required is returned when a prepaid balance cannot cover a request. It is not transient: do not retry, top up instead. Pay-as-you-go responses also carry X-Credits-Remaining (credits left), X-Balance-Remaining (approximate USD) and X-Balance-Currency.

  • Improved

Balance history, top-up status and automatic top-up settings are available in the dashboard.

  • Improved

Pay as you go carries Starter-tier limits (100 requests/min, 30 route points, 2 vehicles, 15-minute isochrones); larger limits come with Pro and Business.

  • New

Subscribers can buy credits as overage: once the daily allowance is spent, purchased credits are used automatically instead of a 429. X-Credits-Remaining now reports the daily allowance left plus purchased credits; X-Balance-Credits reports the purchased part.

Official SDKs and rate-limit headers

  • New

JavaScript/TypeScript SDK (osrmroute) — zero dependencies, covers the 23 endpoints in this release, takes [lat, lon] everywhere.

  • New

Python SDK (osrmroute) — standard library only, so it never conflicts with your existing HTTP stack.

  • New

Every API response now carries X-RateLimit-Limit / -Remaining / -Reset and X-Credits-Limit / -Remaining / -Reset, so you can self-throttle instead of discovering limits through 429s. Rejections also send Retry-After.

  • Fixed

Reverse geocoding now accepts reverse=1 and reverse=yes, not only reverse=true. Previously those silently fell through to forward search and returned an unrelated result.

Worldwide driving coverage

  • New

Routing, matrix, map matching and trip now cover every continent. Africa and South America completed the rollout.

  • Improved

Requests are dispatched to the road graph for the continent they fall in, so a route in Brazil no longer runs against the North American network.

  • Improved

At this release, mainland China requests returned HTTP 422; Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan were unaffected. Check current availability on the Coverage page.

Worldwide address search

  • New

Forward geocoding and autocomplete expanded from the previous regional coverage to worldwide coverage.

  • Improved

Ranking favours major places, so searching a capital city no longer returns a same-named village or a nearby bar first.

  • Fixed

Routes with more than roughly 14 waypoints returned HTTP 500. A logging column was too small for long request paths and rejected the write.

  • Fixed

The per-minute burst limit counted credits instead of requests, so a single large matrix call (for example 80×80) could be rejected on its own. Burst now counts requests, as documented.

Embeddable widget and richer place data

  • New

Embeddable route widget — drop routing into any site with an iframe, no build step.

  • Improved

Geocoding results are enriched with additional place attributes and points of interest.

  • New

Full legal suite published: Terms, Privacy, Acceptable Use, Refund Policy, DPA and User Agreement.

Marketplace and billing

  • New

RapidAPI-proxied traffic is accepted via the proxy-secret header.

  • New

Self-serve subscription cancellation from the dashboard, plus a past-due warning.

  • Improved

The OpenAPI spec carries example values for every parameter, so the interactive console and generated clients work out of the box.

Coverage expansion and search relevance

  • New

Map coverage expanded from 10 to 26 countries across the Caucasus, Central Asia, Turkey, Iran and the Middle East.

  • Improved

Geocoding re-ranks results by category intent, so searching "pharmacy" surfaces pharmacies rather than streets with a similar name.

  • New

Per-key restrictions — lock an API key to specific websites or IP addresses to limit the damage of a leaked key.

Usage transparency and new services

  • Improved

Daily limits moved to a rolling 24-hour window. Your budget now frees up continuously instead of resetting at a fixed hour.

  • New

Per-key credit usage charts in the dashboard, with weekly and monthly views.

  • New

    Places (nearby POI) API.

  • Improved

Bicycle and pedestrian routing run on their own dedicated road graphs rather than reusing the driving network.
